The recently created Youth Voter Outreach Committee has already engaged with hundreds of students at voter registration and education tabling events across the city. In January and February, the committee attended eleven events, mostly on university and college campuses, and also worked with a few high school campus efforts.         

Highlights have included inviting interested students to join us to learn about our plentiful LWVSA resources and how to use a voting machine.  Those students have then attracted their peers to our table and led their own conversations about the importance of voting.  Also, we were able to learn about the strong program at Trinity University led by student democracy fellows.  They have assembled a task force of campus and community organizations for support in their goal of increasing their student voter turnout rate.  We hope to share their excellent ideas as we visit other campuses. We are in the midst of meeting other representatives in Leagues across the country and learning how to use the app “League in Action” to promote and track our encounters with future young voters in the San Antonio area.
