The Community Outreach Committee has found the coolest place in town, the San Antonio Public Libraries. Volunteers are working the libraries this summer, informing patrons of the November election, asking them to pledge to vote, and spreading the word about Voters Guides and vote411.org. But the focus isn't just on the voting age population, volunteers are offering coloring sheets and bookmarks with patriotic and civic themes that children can color, prompting family conversations about the importance of voting and being civically engaged. Election Jeopardy is another activity the Community Outreach Committee offers at events to engage people in civics.
Welcoming new citizens and registering them to vote continues to be an important activity of the Community Outreach Committee. Naturalization ceremonies occur almost every Friday in San Antonio. League volunteers are there to register voters, answer questions and, of course, congratulate them on becoming a United States citizen.
In August, we will be tabling at Back to School events. These events are always fun with lots of excited children getting school supplies and grateful parents learning about community resources and VOTING!
Come join other dynamic volunteers! You will meet new people, see new places and be defending our democracy.
