May 6 Election Review
Madhu Sridhar, President | Published on 5/7/2023
A big thank-you to all who voted in the municipal election on May 6. Now the election moves to its next phase: the runoffs. Early voting runs May 30-June 6; Election Day is Saturday, June 10. You need not have voted in the May 6 election to vote in the runoff, and it’s not too late to register. But hurry: The deadline is May 10. Get a mail-in form at any public library, or download and print one and mail it to the Bexar County Elections Office by that date.
Voters in only two San Antonio City Council districts will decide their next council representative – the rest had winners with more than 50% of the vote.
District 1 will see a runoff between Sukh Kaur, who won 34% of the vote, and incumbent Mario Bravo, who won 26%. In District 7, newcomers Marina Alderete Gavito, with 43%, will compete with Dan Rossiter, with 21%. You can go to our online Voters Guide at Vote411.org to compare their answers to questions we asked them about important issues, or go to a PDF of the printed Voters Guide.
Candidates who won the election outright were:
- Mayor – Ron Nirenberg
- District 2 – Jalen McKee-Rodriguez

- District 4 – Adriana Rocha Garcia
- District 5 – Teri Castillo
- District 6 – Melissa Cabello Havrda
- District 8 – Manny Pelaez
- District 9 – John Courage
