Civic engagement with fellow community members and elected officials is critical to the health of our democracy. I was encouraged to see many young adults, including college students, attend a recent City Council meeting to communicate--with the Mayor, Council members and Police Chief--their insistence that government officials respect civil rights and follow the Constitution. Promoting and supporting this form of civic engagement is part of the LWV’s larger mission, one I’m enthusiastic to help advance.
San Antonio has been home for 30+ years. In addition to raising two children here with my husband Chris, I’ve worked in event coordinating, membership management and fundraising—undertaking these roles for non-profit organizations including the Archdiocese of San Antonio, San Antonio Botanical Garden, and South Texas Blood & Tissue Center. I also stay connected with and support my community through grassroots organizations such as Mobile Loaves & Fishes, Impact San Antonio and COPS/Metro Alliance. Yoga, travel, pottery, reading and hiking are some ways I relax and renew.
I’m attracted to spaces where I may engage with diverse populations of generous, caring and energetic individuals who collaborate to build strong communities for the common good. Membership in LWVSA provides such an opportunity for which I’m grateful.
