Who's Keeping the League Looking Good?

In early 2019, I started working with the League when my former Express-News colleague Glenda Wolin asked me to take over production of the Voters Guide. It was black and white and gray at that time. Glenda and I agreed that it needed a makeover, and I transformed it into what you see today.

We also updated the LWVSA.org website. I rebuilt the site, giving it a more polished look, with Glenda and Elizabeth Wood-Hull assisting. We used it until the League switched to Club Express. When the League moved the site to Club Express, my role changed to keeping it updated and maintained.

I continue to be the print designer and web master for the League. I’ve been tasked to visually improve the League’s brochures and graphics, bringing them in line with the national League guidelines. I also create visual graphics for the League’s web presence.

Background:

I joined the Army in 1985 as a Military Photojournalist/Public Affairs Specialist. After a tour in Okinawa Japan, the Army transferred me to San Antonio in 1989 where I worked as a travelling photojournalist for Army / Air Force Hometown News. I traveled around the world, writing stories about soldiers and airmen for their hometown newspapers. Most people knew our work by the “Holiday Greetings” that appeared on their local news broadcasts at Christmas time.

I left the Army in 1991 and stayed in San Antonio. I earned a degree in English at UTSA, and was eventually hired as a graphic designer in the Art Department at the San Antonio Express-News. I stayed there for nearly 20 years, learning how to work the design programs and creating interactive graphics for the new MySA.com web portal. After leaving the newspaper business I picked up the occasional print client, and my work for the League is the brightest star in my portfolio.
