LWVSA Youth Contest

Eliana Arriaga, 2023 Youth Contest scholarship recipient | Published on 7/27/2025

The scholarship that I won from the LWVSA Youth Contest was truly one-of-a-kind. So many scholarships focus solely on academic achievements or written essays, but the League of Women Voters of San Antonio took a different approach, one that invited creativity. Instead of just listing accomplishments, I was encouraged to think critically and creatively about the world around me and how I could express my values.

This opportunity allowed me to combine two of my greatest passions, dance and voting rights, into one powerful project. I had never come across a scholarship that made space for that kind of expression. Beyond the award itself, the experience connected me with an inspiring network of advocates and mentors who are deeply committed to uplifting young voices. I’m incredibly grateful to have been selected, and I truly hope more students take advantage of this unique and empowering opportunity.
