LWVSA was one of over 500 Leagues across the country to participate in voter registration events for National Voter Registration Day (NVRD) on September 17th. Since the inception of NVRD in 2012, the League of Women Voters has been the largest on-the-ground partner for this annual civic holiday. In addition to registering new voters and updating registration for those who had a change of address, LWVSA community outreach volunteers assisted voters in checking their registration status ahead of the voter registration deadline on October 7th.
LWVSA community outreach volunteers participated in 5 events on National Voter Registration Day! Three events were on college campuses: San Antonio College, Texas A&M San Antonio, and Trinity University. In addition to registering to vote, students were able to practice on a voting machine, learn about Vote411.org, and receive fun giveaway items, like drawstring bags and stress relievers, with the LWVSA Youth Voter Outreach slogan, “our tomorrow depends on our vote today.”
One hundred and twenty new citizens participated in the Naturalization Ceremony on National Voter Registration Day in City Council Chambers. LWVSA works closely with the Bexar County Elections Office to make this day memorable by providing voter registration. Community Outreach was also present at the San Antonio Museum of Art where 5 new voter registrations were completed.
